The 6th International Dry Toilet Conference 2018 – Dry Toilet Goes Circular was held in Tampere, Finland on 22nd – 24th August 2018. The conference venue was Hiedanranta, a former industrial area by the Lake Näsijärvi converted into a platform for experiments and innovations on modern urban planning and practices of circular economy. The venue features a unique dry sanitation system, making it especially suitable for the conference.
The theme of the conference was Dry Toilet Goes Circular with a focus on Cooperation, Co-creation and Experimentation. Building on the experiences and the excellent feedback from the previous conferences, the aim of the conference was to act as a forum for various stakeholders to meet and discuss sustainable sanitation and its practices all over the world.
This year the majority of the papers were presented at interactive, result-oriented workshops, where a variety of themes was covered and the results of the discussions was shared with the entire conference audience at plenary sessions. Selected participants were also assigned the honour and responsibility of acting as co-chairs of these workshop sessions, being thus able to gain experience in managing discussion and taking notes.
