In the framework of the conference we also organized different social events and excursions! We want to thank all the participants for wonderful trips and a fantastic conference dinner.

Tampere Water History Sightseeing

Wednesday 19th of August 16.00 – 19.00


Tampere water history sightseeing guided by adjunct prof. Dr. Tapio Katko from the Tampere University of technology. The first stop of the tour was Pyynikki observation tower located on top of the world’s largest esker with a view of the cityscape and Tampere’s two major lakes. After some refreshments, we saw historical sites on water supply and sanitation development: first water reservoirs, first and current water supply systems with treatment, industry grade water and sanitation facilities in the center. The tour  ended by passing the main waste water treatment plant close to the city center and returning back to the Cumulus Koskikatu (Koskikatu 5) for the get-together party.

Minimum of 20 participants were required. Maximum 50 participants. Fully booked.
Departed from Tampere University of Applied Sciences at 16.00, address Kuntokatu 3, and went by Cumulus Koskikatu hotel at 16.10.

Full day Trip to Serlachius museums in Mänttä

The day  started with about an hour’s bus trip to Mänttä, an active artistic city with its roots in Finnish paper industry. The guided Serlachius art museum tour began at Gustaf Museum situated in the former functionalist head office building of G.A. Serlachius Ltd. The topic subjects of exhibitions had a connection to history or to almost any area of life. The main character of the new permanent exhibition is Mänttä’s first mill owner Gustaf Adolf Serlachius. At art museum Gösta the works of great masters  were shown together with fresh newcomers. The Gösta museum consists of the modern Pavillion opened summer 2014, the Manor built in 1935 as well as of the Park overlooking the beautiful scenery of the area. Lunch was served in the Gösta museum restaurant where the chefs de cuisine value local, quality ingredients of to the season. The day offered great artistic and architectural experiences as well as delicious local food and an insight to Finnish industrial history not forgetting a drive through typical Finnish

Conference dinner

Friday 21st of August 19.00-23.30


Maisa country bistro.

The conference dinner was served at Country Bistro Maisa, a beautiful wooden restaurant by lake Näsijärvi. The delicious menu included amazing Finnish delicacies and a beautiful setting to enjoy the evening together. We made the trip to Maisansalo by steamship S/S Tarjanne built in 1908. Departure towards Maisansalo from Mustalahti harbour was at 19.00 and return by bus at 23.30. On the way to the bistro there was  live music at Tarjanne by Musique Boutique Ensemble. The orchestra also played at Maisansalo during the evening. And oh how we danced!

Included in the normal conference fee.
